Overview

Dexter Player is operated by lazydevz, Inc. It offers two ways to generate subtitles: Local mode, which runs entirely on your device, and Cloud mode, which is opt-in and processes audio on our servers to deliver faster results and translation into many languages. You choose which to use in Settings.

Local mode (default, private)

In local mode, subtitle generation uses an on-device AI model (faster-whisper). Your audio and video never leave your computer, no account is required, and nothing is uploaded. Generated subtitles and settings are stored only on your device.

Cloud mode (opt-in)

If you choose cloud subtitles, you sign in with an account and the audio of the video you are watching is sent to our backend, which forwards it to our processing providers to transcribe and translate it. We send only the extracted audio needed for subtitles — not your video file. Audio is processed to produce subtitles and is not used to train models or retained by us beyond what is needed to return your result.

Accounts & billing

Cloud mode requires an account. We store your email address and authentication state (via Supabase) to identify your usage and plan. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are handled by Stripe; we do not store your card details. We record the amount of cloud processing you use (in minutes) to enforce plan limits.

What we never collect

  • Your video files
  • The contents of your local-mode subtitles
  • File names or file paths
  • Browsing or watch history
  • Payment card details

Analytics

With your consent, we collect anonymous usage analytics (app opens, feature usage counts) with no personally identifiable information, using privacy-focused analytics (PostHog) that does not use cookies. You can opt out at any time in Settings, and all features work the same either way.

Service providers

When you use cloud features, the following processors may handle your data:

  • Groq — speech-to-text transcription
  • Google (Gemini) — subtitle translation
  • Supabase — account authentication & data
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Railway — backend hosting
  • PostHog — anonymous analytics (if enabled)

Your rights (GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Opt out of analytics at any time via Settings
  • Use the app fully in local mode without an account
  • Request access to, or deletion of, the account data and usage records associated with you
